Vintage West German Smoking Set — Stein Lighter & Spin Ashtray, Alpine Relief

A matched pair straight out of a Bavarian living room. The ashtray is a spin-top: press the black knob and the chrome lid rotates, dropping everything out of sight into the bowl below. Underneath it, hand-painted relief work — edelweiss, gentian, orange blossoms, a stag in a cobalt panel, all set over a warm tan salt-glaze body. The lighter is built as a miniature beer stein, complete with a branch-look handle and an alpine church scene on the front, capped with a chrome flip-arm striker.

This is proper German souvenir ware, the kind people carried home from Bavaria and Austria by the suitcase-load through the fifties and sixties. The relief is crisp, the colors are still rich, and the two pieces read as a set the moment you put them side by side.

The spin mechanism is the fun part — it's the piece guests always pick up and play with. Works as well for ash as it does for rings, coins or roaches.

Genuinely vintage, with wear consistent with age.
